Renovating for the next generation of business leaders

We supported the expansion and renovation of Portland State University’s School of Business in downtown Portland, Oregon. The project increased the existing structure by 172% and added nearly 38,000 ft² of new space, creating a final building size of 142,874 ft². The design brought everything under one roof: classrooms, project rooms, industry-specific centres, an atrium with study spaces, bridges and stairs, welcoming common areas and modern offices for faculty and staff. The building also achieved LEED Platinum certification, showing PSU’s commitment to sustainability.

Estimating

Certainty in the numbers

We provided cost estimating throughout the design process. By comparing our figures with the contractor’s, we showed the client that costs were running 5 percent over budget.

Managing costs without compromise

That insight proved critical. We worked with the design and construction team to bring costs back under control. By suggesting changes to design elements and constructability, we helped deliver a facility that matched the vision while staying within budget.
