Currie & Brown was appointed by UniBank to provide project planning and quality control services to the UniPlaza development which has become one of the Baku City’s commercial landmarks.
The design, by Nariman Imamaliyev, has been awarded first prize for “best design by local architects in the period of independence of Azerbaijan Republic”.
The 11-storey, 6,000 square metre development will provide new “head office” accommodation for UniBank employees, and was built directly in front of UniBank’s former headquarters on Rashid Behbudov Avenue in Baku.
Located on Rashid Behbudov Avenue, one of the city’s main arteries, UniPlaza Office Center will also provide a convenient address for UniBank customers.
The award was made by the State City Planning and Architecture Committee and the Unity of Architects of Azerbaijan Republic. Based on a combination of features such as prime location, state-of-the-art building systems and design, UniPlaza claims category ‘A’ commercial office building status.

This was an imaginative design which is in keeping with its immediate area in downtown Baku", commented Fuad Aliyev, Director of Currie & Brown's Azerbaijan offices The first two floors will be occupied by the customer service facilities, with the retail and corporate banking units on the ground floor and the VIP customer area to be located on the first floor. The other floors will be taken over by the other service departments and units of the Bank. The building has the advanced security and fire safety systems including the clean air injection facility.
