Currie & Brown doubles up with the London Borough of Hackney

10-May-2017

The upcoming ground-breaking ceremony at London’s Nile Street on 11 May will mark the next step in the delivery of two new school facilities to Hackney Borough residents, paid for by an innovative mechanism of cross-funding from high-quality residential towers on the same sites.

Currie & Brown has been appointed to provide full cost management and principal designer services to the Hackney Schools for the Future 2 Local Education Partnership on the development of these two mixed-use schemes to improve education in East London.

The first, at Nile Street, is a 4,067m˛ pupil referral unit with residential development above, comprising 175 units within two blocks including a 29-storey tower. A single level of basement serves the entire development. Tiger Way, the second project, comprises a two-form entry primary school and 89 residential units within 11 and 13-storey pavilions. This development is also served by a basement, and borders the open spaces of Hackney Downs.

Currie & Brown has been acting as cost manager and principal designer on both developments since their inception. Project partners include the London Borough of Hackney, the Local Education Partnership, McLaren Construction and residential advisors Londonewcastle.

Andrew Moore, senior director in Currie & Brown’s London office, stated: ‘The two projects provide much-needed learning spaces for the Hackney community. We are delighted to be working with the London Borough of Hackney to deliver a scheme which will support the next generation of pupils and their families.’
