Following the decision by Formula One Management to award Abu Dhabi the rights to host a Grand Prix from 2009-2016, Currie & Brown, the international asset management consultancy, has been appointed by the Abu Dhabi-based real estate developer Aldar, to provide cost management services for the development of seven 'Race-day' hotels overlooking the circuit.
The contract, estimated at around AED 2 billion, secures C&B’s expertise in planning and managing large scale, high profile developments for the duration of the two-year project at Yas Island.
For its part Currie & Brown has committed a 16-strong commercial and cost management team to the project. The team is responsible for co-ordinating and monitoring the work of lead consultants and contractors at each of the sites.
Mark Taylor, Currie & Brown’s Regional Director in the Middle East said: "We are one of the very few firms in the region with the scale and track record to take on this project and we are delighted to have been chosen by Aldar. The world will be watching as we count down to the event next year and we will be here working with each of the individual contractors to ensure that the developments are delivered on time and on budget."
Yas Island is one of the largest natural islands in Abu Dhabi with a total land area of 2,500 hectares and approximately 32km of beach front shoreline. The mixed use island is expected to become a world-class shopping and leisure destination, with over 300,000 sqm of retail development planned. As well as hosting the Grand Prix in 2009, Yas Island will host the world’s first ‘Ferrari World’ including a Ferrari-themed park, museum and theatre.
Currie & Brown employs 70 people at its offices in Abu Dhabi where it has been active in the local market for over 25 years. Throughout the region, the company is working on a number of prestigious projects including the International City development in the heart of Dubai and an office and retail high rise development in Business Bay.
